Interesting Comparision

Modern English is the Wal-Mart of languages: convenient, huge, hard to avoid, superficially friendly, and devouring all rivals in its eagerness to expand.

Ugh, I love metaphors and I hate Wal-Mart. And I still shop there. And I still speak English.

Ironically, Wal*Mart is the one place near me that I can go and be guaranteed to hear at least 5 people speaking at least 2 different languages.

For the most part, here the employees speak English, but my last trip to Wal*Mart, I hear Mandarin, Indian, and Spanish. Pretty impressive considering how not-diverse Harrisburg is.

I think I'm the only person who speaks English natively in my apartment complex. ;-p

Great, now I have to learn a new language!

I haven't shopped in a WalMart for almost ten years. I continue to speak English, despite being a kneejerk bleeding heart liberal.
