For me it depends on the context, but when I looked at it, that's what I said in my head first. Also, I like doing this: ¼. :)

You are so technological.

What context would make you say fourth? What context would make you say quarter?

I think I say fourth for recipes and such. And quarter the rest of the time? But now I'm not sure. Maybe I would always read it as fourth...

I agree - context. Fourth for recipes, and quarter if I am measuring something with a ruler, like when I'm sewing.

Like Liss, it depends on the context. In cooking, I'll flip between the two, but probably say quarter more. In math type situations, I usually say a forth. :P

I prefer to say, half of a half myself.

This! I've never done that before, but I'm doing it now.

In cooking, for me it's always a quarter cup. I don't think I've ever called it a fourth.

"One fourth", as in "one fourth teaspoon". But I also say "a quarter teaspoon". It depends on the context.

I just do the latter. I'm always afraid someone will interpret the former as putting in four teaspoons, each being counted off ((first, second, third,) fourth).

(As long as you don't say "one quarter of a teaspoon", which drives me crazy.)

My first instinct was to say one fourth, but if I were talking about grades, I'd say 25%, and if I were thinking about a graph or visualizing it in some other way, I'd say a quarter.
