Long day

Today was a long day. I was woken up at about 5:30 this morning by the sound of my bedroom wall creaking. It was amazingly disconcerting, but once I figured out the sound was being caused by the 50+ mph (low highway speed for those non-miles people) wind we were having, it made a little more sense. But I had a ridiculously hard time getting back to sleep - I don't know why I bothered. Anyway, I got up early again and I made a serious dent in the living room mess today. Serious. Like, there is this HUGE area of floor that I can SEE and it not covered with STUFF. It's amazing. Really. I wish I could vacuum it, but my roomba is not charging properly. It sits on the docking station ALL THE TIME, but when I go to use it, it only runs for about 15 minutes tops and dies. Also, after un-docking, the light is already at "medium" power. Hm. I really don't want to pay 60 for a new battery or whatever price it is. I might as well just get a real vacuum. It has lost its appeal and the set up of my apartment makes it impossible to schedule cleaning since I have to set up the virtual walls to do anything.

I'm setting up the crockpot tonight to make a breakfast apple crisp. Hopefully I'll get the rest of the tidying done tomorrow morning and afternoon. YAY. I've got 1 book to ship tomorrow, but also 2 packages and a bunch of bills/taxes stuff, so I'll be going to the post office in the morning. Let's hope I can manage to leave the apartment at 9am or earlier.

Bedtime! Hope everyone had a happy darwin/lincoln day.

That's a dead battery in your roomba.

Nooooooooooooo! :-(

Yeah, I ran it again this morning and it went from green to red in less than 5 minutes. *sigh*

It really bothers me that people are putting Darwin and Lincoln on the same line, or worse, mentioning Darwin and not Lincoln. :(

Sorry! :-( (PS - be on the look out for a package from me)

lol. No worries, just a personal hooflah of my weirdness and Lincoln obsession! :) Some people were all "happy Darwin day" without even a mention of my man Linc! Now who had the greater impact on our country specifically? ;)

Cool! I'm excited.

I thought it was kinda weird how many people mentioned Darwin. I never even knew they had the same birthday until yesterday. Weird.

Me neither! Except that I read it in 'homeschool magazine' the day before. And I didn't even realize they'd been contemporaries.

And nobody is even MENTIONING Z's dad's birthday. He must feel REALLY left out. :(

I bet the people who knew it was his birthday mentioned it!

Aww. Happy birthday to him! I bet he is much healthier than either of the other two! :-D

My bed was shaking from the wind, I couldn't fall asleep after the cat got me up.

My cellphone is like that, it'll charge for 20 minutes and claim the battery is full, then an hour later I'm down to 3 bars.

That wind was insane, but it made me feel like I was back in Rochester, NY so it was bizarrely comforting.

I really want one of those Roomba thingies. They sound so neat. On the plus side, I am having a love affair with my Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

I was just talking about magic erasers the other day! They are awesome and made of win. And magic. I swear they are actually magic.

I don't think I could recommend a roomba. It's more a novelty than anything else. I need a real vacuum. I guess I'll look for that on craigslist next.

We need an upstairs vacuum. I hate dragging that thing upstairs. And I should add: I don't.

I end up not using the roomba at all because it is a pain to set up a circumference and such that I just don't use it (or vacuum at all since it's the only thing I have). I think I'll sell it on Craigslist saying it needs a new battery.

Do you think you'll get a lot for it? I don't know how much those cost. I want the pet-dander roomba.

I'm not sure. It probably needs a replacement kit ($25) and a new battery ($70) and maybe a new bin ($25) so that's $120 that someone would have to spend on top of whatever I charged. But I do have all the accessories that are in good condition (probably about $130 worth according to the website). So, I guess I'd see if I could get $100 for the whole thing. I got it on woot.com so it was an excellent deal to start with. Plus, I have the original box and the instructions and such. People like having the original box. :)

How come you can't just turn it on and let it go? I just closed the door to the bathroom and spare room I didn't want it going in and let it have out it.

Because you are supposed to do a specific area at a time so that it can properly sense the area and clean accurately. If it went from the kitchen to the living room to the bedroom it would never finish. I do a room at a time except I was doing the living room as 3 seperate areas since it is so big. Also, moving all my computer wires and such was a huge pain.

Yeah, moving stuff was annoying. I'm still not sure what I did with some stuff I moved. :-p I should have probably kept mine out of the kitchen, because it just wasted time and didn't really do anything and I need to swiffer it anyway, not vaccuum per se. But, my hall, bedroom and living room, it seemed fine doing in 'one sweep'. ::shrug::

For what it's worth, my grandma has the Roomba that's specifically for pet hair, and she ABSOLUTELY loves it.

Did you use it frequently? I've only used mine once so far. Just wondering how many uses I can plan on before needing a new battery. If you think about it though, that battery is doing a lot, considering all that the machine does.

Nope. Probably once every 1-3 months or so. Which is disgusting when you think about it. But I've had it for about a year and a half.

edit: also, mine was a referb from woot.com so that probably makes a difference.

Ah. Well, I've only vacuumed twice (the whole apartment) and maybe a quick once over in the bathroom a couple more times than that, in over a year now, so I'm not allowed to call you disgusting. ;)

Ah ha. Good to know! Do you know how to clean it out/empty it? Mine's been sitting on it's back chock-a-block full since I ran it two weeks ago. :-p

You just pull out the dust tray. Do it over the trash can or something, though because dust will go everywhere. Ew.

You must be living under a rock. Maybe they don't have a big market for them in Canada?

They have them at costco (in canada)! They are not at most retailers, though so I can see how you would not just run into them.

Ick, dirty refrozen snow is ugly. We've got some too, though probably not as much. I especially am amused when there's a HUGE swath of dirt on top of a small ice pile and you can so tell that the plow had dug up about four inches of ground along with that pile.

I was definitely woken up by the wind too.
