Just ask.

My last credit card bill had a late fee posted on 10/24. My payment was posted to the account on 10/25. And due to this late fee, I also had a finance charge posted to the account. All charges totaled over $60. I figured it wouldn't hurt to call and ask them to remove the charges since I've had the card for over 2 years with no problems. It took me a few minutes to talk to a person, but once I did she was understanding of my situation and volunteered to remove all the charges. And I had prepared to do battle!

So, it just goes to show that it doesn't hurt to ask. :-) And save yourself $60. That was definitely 10 minutes well spent.

Man, and sometimes just being nice when you call will get you exactly what you want! I've worked on the other end of those calls for YEARS and sometimes it's really a judgement call for the person on the otherside of the phone - if you treat them like a human (and admit that maybe you made a mistake if that is the case) they'll do as much as they can to help you out, start out yelling at them & you'll hit a brick wall.
