I "discovered" (ie, heard on the radio) these 2 songs recently and I just have to share them. If I did the whole mp3 player thing, these songs would be among the top played.

It took me a while to track down the title/artist of this first song. I heard it on the radio a few times before I could pick out enough lyrics (and remember them more than 20 minutes) to google it. I love the funky beat and the spirit behind the whole song.

Michael Franti & Spearhead : Say Hey
<lj-embed id="19" />

The way that the lyrics are simple yet complex and syncopated just makes me want to listen to this one over and over.

Owl City - Fireflies (embedding disabled)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI4JLa0hbUw

Yesterday I bought a bushel of apples for $21 (btw, that's definitely 40+ pounds, but not totally sure how much). Today, we (mom, liz and me) turned those apples into many, many, many quarts of apple sauce. Some of said apple sauce is at this very moment being reduced to become apple butter. The apple butter will be canned tomorrow after church. ahhh.... I love working in the kitchen. Maybe pictures later this week.

So, on Saturday night, I got to see Jim Gaffigan at the Hershey Theatre thanks to an awesome find on Craigslist ($30 ticket instead of $45-60).

When I got there, the security lady questioned my bag o' stuff to have signed and she informed me that he wasn't going to be staying to sign autographs after the show. (Her words: "He's skipping town right after the show is over.") That was a huge disappointment. I had a lovely Oscar Myer box of bacon for him to sign and fan mail to give him from Albert. So, I went back to the car so I didn't have to have the stuff with me all night (and also to put my water bottle in the car since they weren't letting ANYTHING in). It was raining and they weren't letting people bring umbrellas into the theatre, so that was weird, but they did have umbrella racks and Hershey is full of trustworthy people, apparently. :-P

Rich Brooks (myspace link) opened for Jim (I think this is the guy. I missed his name but only caught his last name, so this is what my google search found). Rich was very funny and I enjoyed his comedy. The same type of clean-ish humor that Gaffigan does, and it seemed to flow well from Brooks to Gaffigan.

Jim was AWESOME. He did some stuff about Hershey at the beginning and then launched into his regular routines. He did some stuff I never heard before and some of the classic stuff (ie, HOT POCKETS!) so it was a great mix.

The show started at 8 and was over around 9:30 and I didn't even get out of the parking lot until 10pm because of where my space was and the fact that I had to back out. I just sat in the car and waited for the lot to clear. :-P Got home around 10:10pm. All in all, a great night. :-) I did hear via facebook that one of my classmates from high school was there and they saw Jim leave the theatre and get directly into a cab and speed away. :-(

I did take notes in sort of a "set list" way, but it was hard to capture every topic. Anyway, this is what I ended up with:

Hershey ("I haven't eaten a Hershey Bar since I was 10. Today I ate 5, so far.")
NYC Cabs
Shoes
Speedwalkers
Friends
Houses
Hotels
Bellhops/Concierge
Hotel Pools
Above-ground pools
Whales
Domino's Pasta Bread Bowls (Domino's "healthy alternative to pizza")
Cancer (yes, he went there. somehow it was okay)
Taco Salad
Seafood
Laziness/TV
Elevators/Stairwells
Water Skiing/Camping
Hammocks
Snooze bar
Bacon (!!)
Catholic
Fortune Cookies/Chinese Food ("I can make these jokes. I'm Chinese.")
Gum ("We are obsessed with food. Chewing gum is just practicing chewing.")
Thanksgiving
Fast Food /Popeyes
Waffle House
HOT POCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Encore: Sex and the difference between men and women.
They are having a party and just wanted to let people know that if it is louder than usual to come down and let them know instead of calling the cops. :-P I am thinking they are Russian or eastern-european due to the accent. Nice of them, though. Didn't invite me, however. :-P

I just won Coraline on DVD! (AND the 3D version)

I was flipping stations on the radio and I heard they were talking about Coraline (and trying to describe it - ha), so I stopped. Then they said they were giving it away if you could guess what movie they were going to act out. They acted out Sweeney Todd! EASY GUESS (did the scene where they are talking about baking people into pies)!! So, when they said the phone number, I quick typed it into my phone and it rang for what felt like 5 minutes (probably was at least 1:30, though). I guess I was the first caller? But I won!!! YAYAYAYAY! And I was awesome on the radio, I think. I don't think anyone I know listens to that in the morning, though (wish I could post on facebook from work to find out).

Afterwards I was shaking. :-P

Now I just have to figure out when the heck I can pick it up. Might have to be after I get back from Alaska! Oops. :-P
