I was packing up some of my books (ones that are part of my permanent collection) and I thought of a good question for ya'll.

What book were you forced to read in high school/college/whenever that you ended up liking(perhaps grudgingly) in the end?

Share your stories! I will tell you about mine tomorrow.

I obscurely quoted Hitchhiker's to the guy at the post office today. I don't think he got it, but he laughed.

Guam
Does anyone here use any sites like this? The ones I have heard the most about are paperbackswap.com and swaptree.com. I'd be interested in an user testimonials from people I actually know.

The basic reason I'm looking into this is because I have quite a few books (probably 20 or so) that I know are NEVER GOING TO SELL on half.com*. I'd like to be able to trade them to someone for something I'd like for my personal collection so that I have more space for storing the books I am selling.

Anyway, any thoughts?

*for those of you who don't know: I have about 500+ books listed on the site, it brings in about $20-50 dollars a month in profit

(ganked from 2 of my friends)

The Big Read thinks the average adult has only read six of the top 100 books they've printed below.

01. Look at the list and bold those you have read.
02. Italicise those you intend to read
03. Underline the books you LOVE.
04. Strikethrough the books you've either started and couldn't finish, hated, or have no intention of reading.
05. Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've only read 6 and force books upon them.

I've read 31 of these.. but there are duplicates and weirdness...where did this list come from anyway? )

Life is truly a ride. We're all strapped in and no one can stop it. When the doctor slaps you behind, he's ripping your ticket and away you go. As you make each passage from youth to adulthood to maturity, sometimes you puit your arms up and scream, sometimes you just hang on to that bar in front of you. But the ride is the thing. I think the most you can hope for at the end of life is that your hair's messed, you're out of breath, and you didn't throw up.

Last night I was tired.... until my head hit the pillow. I laid their for a while trying to force myself to sleep, but it didn't work, so I decide to read until I was tired...

I'm currently reading Joe College, by Tom Perrotta. I picked it up last summer and never got around to reading it. I'm enjoying it so far and last night I made a significant dent in it.

One of the chapters I read last night was about the main character (Danny) going to a party. Danny doesn't dance at parties, and as he's getting ready to tell the girl he's with about why he doesn't dance, etc, etc, she pulls him out on the dance floor before he gets a chance. He's so mesmerized by her dancing, he starts too. He describes the manic feeling and the songs. One song in particular that he describes dancing to is "Superfreak" by Rick James.

Fast forward to this morning. It's pouring rain (another beautiful day for sleeping in, I might add) and I'm scurrying to my car. I get in, start the car, and the radio is playing.... Superfreak, by Rick James.

Whoa. And of course, it will be in my head for the rest of the day. Bah.
