I think a recipe blog would be fun, and easy to up-date. Plus easily available to share. :)

Pick up a copy of MasterCook. Its a great recipe program, very easy to use, automatically calculates nutritional info, etc. Also very affordable. Newest version is usually $20, while the previous one can usually be snagged for $10 :)

How is it for adding, formatting, and making notes to recipes? If you use this, I'd appreciate a couple screenshots or a review when you get a chance. :-) I see that version 8.0 is on amazon.com for ~$3.50, so I don't think I'd be breaking the bank. :)

Very good on all three. Adding is easy, and it actually has a nice import/auto format for copy/pasting entries from websites and the like. It formats entries like a cookbook, and they can be exported in several formats as well. Making notes is also easy, I believe are there at least two fields for making notes. I have it installed on my desktop. I'll see if I can get some screenshots.

No hurry, but I would appreciate it! The only thing about going this route is that I will only be able to access them from one computer. I wonder if the program would run off a thumb drive.

Good old fashioned recipe cards.

Someday I might go to hard copies, but going off what is on my laptop screen is just so darned easy!
Jun. 13th, 2008 10:05 pm (UTC)
Don't you get flour all over the keyboard?
Jun. 13th, 2008 10:15 pm (UTC)
Nope. The laptop stays on the kitchen table, and I work on the kitchen counter. I shield it with plastic wrap if necessary, but that isn't very often. Most of my recipes are pretty memorizeable anyhow.

If you are like me, the easiest way is the best way. If something is too much trouble to use or create, I won't use it.

Right now I've got the majority of them in Gmail, some of them on here, some of them over here and it's just a big jumble! I'm not sure what the *best* or *easiest* way is, so I'm hoping some input will shed some light.

Well, I'm a disorganized scatterbrain, so I can't be of any help.

But I would like to note: I like polls!
Jun. 13th, 2008 10:15 pm (UTC)
YAY polls! :) I should do more of them

Yes. Yes, you should.

organizing recipes
I personally would go with Collectonian on this. I love to cook and am actually a professional cook. I think if it's eay you will be more likely to use it. Plus you want to share those great recipes! The program she suggested, is easy. She's helped me a ton!

A Folder on your computer with subfolders by category. Easily searchable and to print off the ones you want. I also have a tabbed notebook with plastic sleeves for the recipes I keep.

MasterCook sounds very interesting.

Upon seeing sillyliss's post it occured to me that a friend used to archive her recipes online - she may be able to give you some tips on the best way to do so etc - fordarkness - I am sure she won't mind if you drop her a comment about it!

Cruising, but for a purpose
Just passing through thanks to Sillyliss. I happen to be creating my own recipe collection at this time and am looking for some ideas, too. I thought about a recipe blog but then I wanted to categorize the recipes and the whole thing got too complicated. So I'm now up to printing and laminating and placing in a binder. That way I can carry an individual recipe into the kitchen, wipe it clean when done, and reorganize the collection frequently (as I am often want to do). Unless, of course, I come upon a better system.
Good luck with yours!

I do have a few on recipe cards, but my handwriting isn't exactly the prettiest so I do blog mine. I like it because it's very easy to share with people, it cleans out my bookmarks for me, and I can tag it for easy searching.

Here's mine: http://bakinghaven.blogspot.com/
