I just got my hair cut on Sunday, so it just about fits in a pony tail. I used to wear them ALL the time as a child because my hair was so thick and heavy & curly. However, for the passed few years I been getting my hair layered up to around my shoulders & it makes it so much lighter. Therefore, I only wear pony tails about the house, because I like to wear my hair down when I go out and now it has a nice style to it.

He REALLY likes the barrette. I only bring it out for special occasions, though. ;)

I used to wear them ALL the time (like, 22/24 hours a day) when my hair was long. I cut 13 inches off (it was down to my butt, and cutting it brought it to just above my shoulders) my freshman year of college (late 2003). It hasn't been more than two or three inches past my shoulders since then, and usually it's above my shoulders. Wearing it in a ponytail so much was killing/thinning my hair, so it worked out that the cut was short enough that it wouldn't even go into a tiny ponytail.

Right now, it is long enough to go into a low (at the neck) ponytail, but I have only put it in a ponytail once in recent memory, which was when we were painting my room.

Fun fact: The cut was spur-of-the-moment, in the shared bathroom in my dorm. My friend Diana (broken_love_12) was just going to give me a trim, but she, our RA and a few of the girls on our floor gathered around and convinced me to cut it short. I didn't tell my mom, so she was absolutely SHOCKED when she came to pick me up for fall break a few weeks later.

Wow, crazy story! I always put my hair in a ponytail at night so it doesn't get all messed up, but it is only at the nape of my neck, not up high or anything.

I almost always wore ponytails at the nape, though sometimes they were in the middle of the back of my head. Never up high, though.

Today I've got one in the middle (about 4 inches from the nape of my neck). It's about as high as I go - and non-damaging elastics FTW! :D

Also, my aunt (a licensed beautician) will kill you if you start wearing it in a ponytail every day. She says that is one of the WORST things you can do for your hair, and it certainly will NOT keep your hair healthier. Trust me, I know. She gave me that spiel pretty much every time she saw me with a ponytail in, and she saw me at least twice a week!

What does she recommend for keeping out tangles during every day wear-and-tear? I have virgin hair (ie, never permed, colored, and only blown dry 3 times in the last 2 years) and I can literally count my split ends (last count, I had 7). I don't want it to get worse before I cut it in case I decide to sell instead of donating to locks of love. My hair is very thick as well.

Don't have a clue.

If you see/talk to her a lot maybe you could ask her? There is so much conflicting info on the web.

I may see her Friday night. I'll mention it if I remember.

That's odd, because my stylists always fall all over themselves about how healthy and strong and split-ends-free my hair is. But then again, I rarely use a blow dryer or the sticky sort of styling products, and I only use barrettes and non-binding elastics to tie my hair back, and condition or deep-condition every. single. wash.

On the other hand, when I was little my mother would use plain old rubber bands for pony tails, and they will just KILL your hair. :/

Rubber Bands + Hair = DEATH! ugh. Maybe it depends on what kind of hair you have the best way to keep it? That would make sense. Stylists freak out about my hair, too. :-P It is nice.

Obviously, different things work for different people. My hair is naturally very curly and frizzy, so that's probably also a factor. I never blow dry or use rubber bands in my hair, and I rarely use sticky products. I was primarily a scrunchy girl, though I liked those ouchless cloth ponytails, too.

I wish I could do french braids on myself. I fail so hard.

Poll text entries never have enough space, so...
I sleep with my hair pulled back, but leave it down during the day. I have to keep it at my shoulders or shorter, or I will invevitably pull it back all the time. It's cooler and comfy in teh summer and to sleep with, but makes me look younger and more masculine.

Edit -- Oh yeah. Define 'pony tail'. I tend to refer to it as 'pulling it back', because I never lift it up, it's always literally pulled back (just behind my neck). I haven't done a 'lifted' 'pony tail' since I was a kid, and I had someone do it for me.

They are both technically a pony tail. I don't really count for myself unless my brush my hair *into* the pony tail which could be done at either place. To me, "pulling it back" does not involve a brush at all.
Feb. 11th, 2009 06:30 pm (UTC)
I do not brush it back at all. I brush it straight and then just grab it and elasticize it. :)

They're okay, I guess.

Just hair. Meh.
