I'm totally having crepes for dinner. I was thinking of trying my hand at making Fastnachts, but it is a little too complicated for me and would require a special trip to the store. Instead I am going to just pop over to the gas station at the end of the street for milk. yay.

Toppings I've got in the house:
Warm Vanilla Cream Sauce (homemade)
Spiced Apple Topping (homemade)
Strawberry Jam (homemade)
Peach Jam (homemade)
the end of a container of cool whip

hmmm... what else?

What is your favorite crepe topping?

I am on a diet and out $800-$150. I am crabby. And I want crepes right now.

And I like how this entry is tagged. Food AND religion. Go together like monkeys and sunshine.

Our Eeyores can commiserate together.

Well, the reason for the crepes is because it is the day before Ash Wednesday which is known as Fat Tuesday or, here in central PA, Fastnacht Day. So there's the religion connection. :-)

Also, I would come over and make you some crepes right away, but I think I would miss my tv show. Also, I have to put my Alleluias away tonight. Because I forgot to do it on Sunday. Oops. (PS - this is because we don't say/sing Alleluia during the season of Lent - but they come back out at Easter! I'm going to write Alleluia on a bunch of pieces of paper and put them in a box, then at Easter I'm going to take them out and hang them on the wall. It's all symbolic and stuff.)

I thought they went away at Ash Wednesday because Sunday's aren't included in the 40 days leading up to Easter? Hms.

Are you giving up anything?
Feb. 24th, 2009 10:23 pm (UTC)
Well, there's no Alleluias tomorrow, so if you were going to put them away at a service, it would be on Sunday. We didn't do it this year at church, but I am doing it myself.

Haven't decided yet what to give up!!!!!! Currently in the running:
- Snooze button (I did this a previous year)
- Alcohol (which will require finishing off the open bottle of wine in the fridge & not sure if communion should count)
- Suggestions?

Ooh, snooze, I don't think I could do that. Ouch.

How much do you drink?

I'm not sure. I don't really know you well enough to know your vices anymore. :(

Tv? Sex? The news (online/tv)? Cheese? Coffee? Sweets? Certain words you might say a lot, like like? Movies?

Or adding something is what I'm thinking about. Like truly making a point not to procrastinate and to actually get to bed by 11.
Feb. 25th, 2009 01:24 am (UTC)
Probably 3 times a week-ish. Snooze is the hardest.

Liz gave up eating after 9pm one time.
Feb. 25th, 2009 01:54 am (UTC)
Wow. Really? See, I wouldn't have guessed that. Just one 3 times a week, or more at a time? I saw something on the news today that said even moderate drinking can increase cancer rates in women. Of course it also lowers cholesterol and heart rate. Anywho.

That's a good one. I do my best to not eat after 8 if I can help it. Usually I'm sitting down with dinner around 7:45 though, so it's really close. haha.

Snooze would actually tie into my no procrastinating/getting to bed on time thing. Hm.
Feb. 25th, 2009 01:59 am (UTC)
Just one. Usually like half a shot in a tall glass of juice or soda or a glass of wine.

Yeah, I didn't even start eating dinner tonight 'til 8. Makes it hard not to eat late. And I usually eat something right before bed.

The snooze thing also helps to keep you honest about what time you are actually going to get up. Like, at night I'd set my alarm for 7 but not actually get up 'til 8:30. :-P Setting the alarm for 8:15 and then just getting UP THEN would be a lot more restful.
Feb. 25th, 2009 02:08 am (UTC)
Yeah, my doc said to try to not eat after 8. I said I didn't have a huge choice. Which is better, inhaling dinner, or eating right around 8. :-p Eating before bed isn't good though. You have little time to burn any of the calories at all and it can cause indigestion. :\

I really am liking this idea! I set for 7:35 and don't get out of bed until 8 usually. But I don't know if I could do it.

Instead of hitting the snooze button, sit up in bed and pray for a little while! :-)

I usually have just a bite of something non-acidic(a cracker, a piece of cheese) right before bed so that I don't wake up with heart burn. Bluck. Of course, I just finished dinner at 8:30, but I won't go to bed until 12:30-ish. I wonder how much time you should be up after eating (instead of thinking of it the other way around).
Feb. 25th, 2009 02:22 am (UTC)
That's a good thought! Although my prayer time tends to be going to sleep time, and my waking up time tends to be the 'ugh why am I awake' time. I *always* just want to go back to sleep and can't scarcely think. :-p

Cracker's good, not sure about the cheese. Do you always go to bed around 12:30? That's a good point, the difference in time actually between it. But, for instance, working nights is bad for health, and that's one of the reasons is because the eating times are off. So even if you eat at 1:30 and don't go to bed until 4:30, it's still not good to eat that late even though your hours are spread out the same, just later. Er, does that make sense?
Feb. 25th, 2009 02:58 am (UTC)
I go to bed anywhere between 10:30 and 1am and get up anywhere from 7:30 to 9 on weekdays. It's a pretty big range. And I eat at different times every day! My co-workers go out for lunch at 11:30 and I'm just finishing my breakfast. :-P

Okay, I have all of those things. Tonight is going to be awesome. Why didn't I think of Nutella? I bet peanut butter would be good, too.

LOL, yeah, that would be bad. Pickles on crepes? Probably not so good either.
Feb. 24th, 2009 10:11 pm (UTC)

Feb. 24th, 2009 10:11 pm (UTC)
Ahhh, hungry now! How's about slightly melted chocolate chips and cinamon?

Now I want a waffle. But french toast is as close as I can get. :-p

My favourite kind of crepes are the ones stuffed with homemade vanilla ice creme with whipped creme and strawberry sauce and fresh strawberries.

In case you're wondering, that is exactly what I'm planning on having on Saturday night :)

*looks at yo-crunch vanilla yogurt with reese's pieces & then at her screen*

I think your crepes are (will be) better than my yogurt =(

Send some my way? :P

I'm also all for the nutella. mmmm.

Here it's just called pancake day. yay. our cafeteria at the vet school was selling pancakes - the fluffy kind, yum, but I love crepes too. Do you have a crepe pan? I don't and they stick the first couple and then it's ok.
Feb. 24th, 2009 10:47 pm (UTC)
I'm just going to use my small non-stick frying pan. Alton Brown says to use butter in the pan. I'm using his recipe, but I wish I had the one we used to use when we made food for French class - it had OJ in it, but I can't find one like it online.
