Say a prayer for women at tech schools...

I got this in my e-mail:

Dear GCCIS Women,
It's not to late to let me know how you feel about the women's lavatory supplies.
Please email me as soon as possible so your voice can be heard.

A number of women in the Golisano building are concerned about the erosion of the quality of our lavatory facilities. Some people are concerned about the loss of paper towels, others about the lack of sanitary supplies. There also appears to be inconsistencies across campus regarding supplies available.

In an effort to meet the needs of the women in this college I have spoken with the Womens Center. They have offered their support to ask Facilities to make accommodations for sanitary products (either free or through a dispenser) in every womans restroom, not just one per building.

I would like to know if this is an issue that you are concerned about and would like me to pursue. Your feelings and/or suggestions are needed as well as any examples you know of that may have caused inconvenience to yourself, a fellow student/staff/faculty member, or guest.

Please e-mail me at **** by Wednesday February 23rd. After your feedback is received I will have a better idea of the overall issue and will present it to the Women's Center.

I thank you all for your support!
Hopefully together we can make a difference,

How absolutely pathetic.

Uh, what's wrong with buying your own?
Feb. 25th, 2005 04:48 am (UTC)
Nothing, I just think it's sad.
Feb. 25th, 2005 04:50 am (UTC)
I definitely agree with you.

Dear GCCIS Women,

Just because you happen to be a minority at the school, doesn't mean that you deserve extra treatment. Perhaps you are not the only ones in need of supplies, and it is the fault of the entire janitorial department that the bathrooms are not properly stocked. All students should be entitled to equal treatment, and share equal sanitary rights. So hope off your pedastal and kill yourself.

Your fellow females.

Just because our college actually cares about us, doesn't mean you have to be bitter about it. Maybe you should ask your college to do the same hmm?
Feb. 25th, 2005 05:05 am (UTC)
He's just bitter that he doesn't get to bleed from his groin every month or so.

There are ways to stop that, although not necessarily natural or healthy ones.

There's medicine out that will keep you from menstrating all but four times a year.. granted, there is spotting in some cases, and alot of other junk, but it's an option.

Or one could always drop their overall body fat percentage to 15% or less, depending on your natural percentage. A drastic decrease could result in a lack of menstrating. Although, you're fighting your body's natural tendency. But again, it's an option if it bothers you that much.

There's also surgery.

yeah...ok. nothing worse than a GUY trying to lecture a girl on her period.
Feb. 25th, 2005 06:12 am (UTC)
You'd be surprised at how unknowledgable many women are about their own bodies. So yes, there are things worse than that.
Feb. 25th, 2005 06:42 am (UTC)
Just because some women don't know all of the biology surrounding their periods doesn't mean that there any of them here. When you find an audience of idiots, lecture THEM on their own bodies.

I'm glad you can spout out facts as though you have any clue what it really feels like.

I never said there was anyone who didn't themselves well. But if you're so adamant about referring to how painful it is, do something about it. Don't use it as an excuse to gain sympathy.
Feb. 25th, 2005 06:55 am (UTC)
You are definitely talking to the wrong person about sympathy.
Feb. 25th, 2005 07:03 am (UTC)
And your personal sympathetic experiences has what to do with soap in the bathrooms?
Feb. 25th, 2005 07:10 am (UTC)
You directed your comments at me personally, or were they at the female gender in general? Any time someone says at me, "YOU do this" or "YOU do that" I tend to assume they want to get into specifics about myself. Either learn how to take out your aggressions on the right people, or leave. Stop throwing a hissy fit. You're more grossly feminine than anyone I've seen post in Catherine's livejournal.

Are you just here for tips on how to keep your PMS under control?
Feb. 25th, 2005 07:17 am (UTC)
If I were throwing a hissy fit, I would have used caps-lock, possibly italics, or perhaps a larger font size. Actually, I probably would chose not to reply at all, since I've found that I tend to get quieter as I get more irritated.

Since I couldn't decide if your comment was in defense of copperlegend or yourself (regarding talking to the wrong person about sympathy), I chose to read it as a reference to yourself.

And where exactly would I be leaving from? All I did was make a sarcastic response, which apparently has caused a horde of feminism to arise. I doubt I'm the one with PMS.

Leaving from this thread. You seem to be pretty worked up over everything. Maybe some Midol and a nap will help... Have a good night.
Feb. 25th, 2005 07:26 am (UTC)
Hrmm... self-medication? Sounds like an act of escapism to me.
Feb. 25th, 2005 02:02 pm (UTC)
Sqwwwweeeeeeeeeeee! Flame war!

*know themselves well, is what I meant.
Feb. 25th, 2005 05:07 am (UTC)
RIT only cares about women because the school has trouble keeping them; they do whatever it takes to stop them from leaving, even if it means sucking up beyond normal means. I'm not being bitter, I'm pointing out facts.
Feb. 25th, 2005 07:11 am (UTC)
Interesting, tell me where these "facts" are stated and I'll perhaps take you seriously.

Other than that, I'm going to infer that your comments are based purely on your opinion.
Feb. 25th, 2005 07:13 am (UTC)
Very well, until further notice I will refer to it as an opinion until I feel like attempting to discern the biases living within the RIT administration.
Feb. 25th, 2005 01:24 pm (UTC)
I'm confused. Do you think it's pathetic that the lavatories aren't stocked with sanitary products, or that people don't like it?

"Sanitary" is such an odd euphemism...
Feb. 25th, 2005 02:02 pm (UTC)
I'm just saying it should be a non-issue... if you go in any women's room in any other place than RIT, there's at least a despenser. (not that you've ever been in a women's room at all)

It's just kinda sad because if they need to cut a few dollars, the girls are the first one to get hit.
Feb. 25th, 2005 02:12 pm (UTC)
Actually, I have been in a women's restroom. I used to clean the one in my high school theater before plays. I don't think there were any dispensers in there, though -- it was pretty small.

Out of random curiosity, what sort of things do these dispensers usually have? Do you get to choose between different products?
Feb. 25th, 2005 02:15 pm (UTC)
I think "morbid" curiosity would be a better descriptor. :-P

Usually pads/tampons. That's it. I've never actually had to use one.
Feb. 25th, 2005 02:30 pm (UTC)
I was considering using "morbid", but it seemed a bit harsh -- these are *your* bodily processes we're talking about here. :-p

People don't talk about menstruation much around me, so whenever it happens I try to take the opportunity to learn new things.

(Yeah, I'm a geek...)
